Make your passion your profession and live off the wind!
The IKO Instructor certification is internationally recognized, opening the door to job opportunities in incredible locations around the world.
To become an IKO Instructor, you must complete two five-day courses: the Assistant Instructor Course (ATC) and the Instructor Training Course (ITC).

ATC – Assistant Training Course
The ATC course covers all essential theoretical knowledge, such as weather patterns, wind and tide information, and kite aerodynamics. It also includes practical skills such as equipment maintenance, beach management, and teaching demonstrations. This ATC course is a prerequisite for the ITC and provides you with the foundation necessary to become an IKO instructor. Online learning resources are also available before the course begins.
Duration: From December 1 to 11, 2025.

ITC- Instructor Training Course
The ITC focuses on kitesurfing instruction, covering the psychology and methodology of instruction, as well as the IKO lesson plan. You’ll get a good amount of teaching practice, observation, and feedback before you begin teaching your own beginner students at the end of the course.
These courses are designed for experienced kitesurfers (see requirements below). However, if you’re new to kitesurfing, you can join our intensive progression course and become an IKO instructor in just twelve weeks, starting from scratch!
If you’re an experienced IKO Level 4 kitesurfer who already does jumps, grabs, and transitions, you can join our ATC and ITC courses below. If you need a little more practice to reach that level, we can offer personalized coaching before the course starts!
ATC & ITC courses, the first steps in your professional career as a kite instructor
Upon completing your ITC, your goal is to achieve the IKO Level 1 instructor certification. With this credential, you can start teaching kitesurfing not only in Asia, but anywhere in the world! With it, you can certify your own students and apply for jobs at kitesurfing schools globally. As a Level 1 instructor, you’ll be able to handle two students with one kite. All IKO instructors are certified and insured, giving you an extra advantage.
The next step is to advance to Level 2 instructor. To achieve this, you’ll need to accumulate a specific number of teaching hours as a Level 1 instructor and pass an online exam. With Level 2 certification, you can establish your own IKO kitesurfing school or become a lead instructor at an existing one. This level of certification also makes you more attractive to employers at kitesurfing schools, who often prefer instructors with proven experience and knowledge.

ICT prerequisites
